Recruiting for CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS)
Introduction of IMCAS
The Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) (http://www.im.cas.cn) is the largest microbiological research institution in China. It was founded on December 3, 1958, and after over 50 years of development, it has become the nation's largest comprehensive research institution of microbiological science.
The Big Data Center of Microorganisms of IMCAS as the type culture data center and microbial information sub-center of China Convention on Biological Diversity, long-term contribute to electronization and network sharing of collection, culture, function evaluation and information of microbial data resources. A series of microbial specialized databases have established including Chinese Microbial Strains Catalogue Database, Chinese Academy of Sciences Type Culture database and Chinese Species Catalogue Database.
The WFCC-MIRCEN World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM) was transferred to the Institute of Microbiology Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010, and it was the first world-class data center in the life science field in China. WDCM was set up as a data center of the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) in 1960s. It is a vehicle for networking 711 microbial resource centers of various types of microbes in over 71 developed and developing countries in Culture Collections Information Worldwide database (CCINFO). It also serves as an information resource for the customers of the microbial resource centers.
From 2012,WDCM started the initiative to construct an effective information environment called Global Catalogue of Microorganisms (GCM) which provided database management system to culture collections and collect strain catalogue information to form an integrated database. At present, there are 74 international culture collections from 35 countries joined global catalogue of microorganisms.
From 2014, information center, as host of a national 863 Program "Microorganism Digital Information System Integration Key Technology Research and Development", launched to develop microorganism big data platform for microbial resources, microbial technology development and industrial applications, cooperating with 28 research institutions. The core of the big data platform is digitized resource integration of the field of microbiology, focusing on microbial isomerization digital resource integration, large-scale genomics data integration and analysis, knowledge mining and vertical retrieval of digital resources of microorganisms and microbes information System based on cloud technology, enacting data standards and service standards of microbial digital resources integration, establishing data systems and knowledge warehouse in the field of microorganism, developing of collaboration service platform and analysis software to support acquisition, storage, mining, sharing and application of microbial digital resource and forming typical demonstration of microbial data integration and application.
